Costs & cover

# Read the whole cost, past the headline.

Ask what is included, what is billed separately, and what the offer becomes after the opening price.

Self-pay

Paying outside insurance, using the cash-price terms offered for the medicine.

## Start with the offer terms.

Request the proposed product’s precise name and form in a written price quote. Ask what the price becomes after any opening offer.

The body’s GLP-1 signal helps control appetite and blood sugar; the medicines that copy it share that name.

As of September 26, 2026, many manufacturer cash offers for GLP-1 medicines ran about $149–$499 a month, with some late-refill prices higher.

The price depended on which medicine was prescribed and how strong it was. Offer terms also set who could qualify and when a refill had to be ordered. The amount supplied for a “month” varied between products. Ask how long the package in your quote would last.

The range is medicine-only context, not a Seattle clinic quote or a total for care.

The September 26, 2026 check found December 31, 2026 expiry dates in many cash offers and savings cards.

An offer’s end date means the terms need checking again; the later price cannot be inferred from it.

Evidence for this chapter

Government listing: semaglutide cash-offer terms

These advertised prices were checked on September 26, 2026. An opening offer may end after the first few purchases.

Government listing: semaglutide tablet offers

The listed price depends on the prescribed strength.

Membership

A recurring service fee; ask whether the medicine is included.

## Keep each part of the bill in view.

The online-service pages checked on September 26, 2026 mostly used monthly memberships, with medicine priced separately.

That was a small sample of advertised offers, not a price survey of Seattle care.

Questions for a written quote

Care

First visit? Follow-up? Recurring fee?

Medicine

Exact product? Package? Offer terms?

Tests

Which tests? Included or extra?

Ask about cancellation, fees when the clinician does not prescribe medicine, and the response to a delayed refill.

A low price does not show that a medicine made to order meets the rules or your needs.

Revisit what compounding means

Evidence for this chapter

Food and Drug Administration (FDA): compounding

Ask which need calls for compounding, then check the rules for that product.

Prior approval

A plan’s decision about paying before the medicine is covered; also called prior authorization.

## Ask the plan about the use, not just the drug.

Ask the insurer about the exact medicine, the condition being treated, the prescriber, and any approval paperwork.

For these medicines, Medicare drug cover could extend to certain conditions beyond weight loss under the plan’s rules, as checked on September 26, 2026.

This describes a possibility for cover; payment by any individual plan is not assured.

Starting July 1, 2026, the separate, temporary Medicare GLP-1 Bridge offered eligible people a $50 monthly copay that continued through December 31, 2027.

The patient’s share of the price is called a copay.

That payment did not count toward Medicare’s usual yearly cap on personal drug spending, under the September 26, 2026 rules.

The Bridge has its own health, plan, and product conditions; it is not open to everyone with Medicare.

Read Medicare’s Bridge conditions

For other insurance cover, ask the plan to explain its answer in writing before you count on being paid back.

Evidence for this chapter

Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS): Bridge

The programme terms here were checked on September 26, 2026.

CMS: who and what qualifies

The prescriber and plan need to check whether you meet all the programme’s conditions.
